Electronic filing of your Dutch tax return - DigiD

ELECTRONIC FILING OF YOUR DUTCH TAX RETURN

Using DigiD

You can file your Dutch tax returns electronically with the Dutch tax authorities. For this you will need a so-called DigiD (electronic identification) as a verification code for communicating with the Dutch tax authorities. You can request your DigiD online.

Once you have obtained your DigiD, you can go to the website of the Dutch tax authorities and download the electronic tax return program from the website of the Belastingdienst.

If you download the program after March 1st, the tax return will already include your salary details and information from your Dutch Bank Accounts. All you need to do is verify the information and add information (such as your U.S. bank account details) or adjust as needed.

Filing a non-resident tax return using electronic signature

Please note that if you are filing a tax return as a non-resident of the Netherlands, you will need to file your electronic tax return using an Electronic Signature instead of the DigiD.

You will first need to download the Electronic Signature Registration Form for Non-Resident Taxpayers from the Belastingdienst website. You can then choose an electronic code which will then be used as your electronic signature to sign your digital tax return. You can make the code up yourself and send it to the Belastingdienst (Dutch tax authority) by post. Once the code is registered, you can use it for tax returns of subsequent years.

Your tax preparer can help you with filing your tax return electronically without needing a Electronic Signature.
